Altenew November 2019 Gradient Cardstock Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hey friends! It's time for another Altenew release and I have to tell you, I'm pretty excited about this one - Gradient Cardstock Packs! One of the best things about them is that they are sized perfectly to fit in your Mini Blossom Die Cut Machine. I don't know about you, but I cut almost everything with my small die cut machine because I can just leave it out on my desk!

There are six different packs and I love them all! They are perfect for the Altenew Layering Dies and I created several projects to share with you.

I wanted to play with all the colors, so for my first project, I made flowers using the Fantasy Floral 3D Die and three colors from each of the colorful Gradient Cardstock Sets and the darkest green from the Green Meadows set. I lined them up on the side of my 6x8 layout, matching them to the quotes I printed.

I thought the Mix & Match Mariposa Die Set accented the flowers perfectly. So fun!

Next, I wanted to try my hand at a fun ombre look on a scrapbook layout.

I focused on the colors from the Sea Shore, Shades of Purple, and Cherry Blossom Gradient Cardstock sets and just cut 1/2" strips and stacked them together. It kind of reminds me of thick icing on a cake and I looove it! I actually used leftover strips of cardstock from pieces I had already die cut and I think it worked out great!

I accented it with a few embellishments from the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection and some Wavy Outline Die Cuts that I had left over from a previous layout. I also stamped some images from my favorite Snap Shots Stamp Set.

Finally, I created a simple card using the Virginia Rose 3D Die Set

I focused on the Red Cosmos Gradient Cardstock Set and I think it's just beautiful. I seriously love that I don't have to dig to find cardstocks to coordinate. It's really so simple.

It's hard to see, but I dry embossed a stripes on the background for some detail.

So, are you as excited as I am to have this new resource for all your 3D dies (and other gradient ideas)?

Altenew | October 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hey friends! It's time for another Altenew release + blog hop and there are so many things to love. I've created two projects, and I'll share the project without a process video first.

There are some pretty awesome string art dies in this release and I used the heart to add some fun detail to this intro for my 2020 6x8 Album that I call my "Whatever the Crap I Want" album.

I stamped images from the Wanderlust Stamp Set on the bottom of the page using Evergreen and Silver Lake inks and a little bit of Mountain Mist on the bottom. (Is anyone else geeking out about the fact that the ink names are all outdoorsy and fit perfectly with this set? Just me? Okay...)

Here's a closer look at that string art. I used white embroidery thread because I wanted the texture without a lot of visual weight.

I added the new 2020 Stamp Set in white on top of my photo and I love the way it looks. Because it's a 2x3 stamp set it has a great price-point and I think I could use it in my December Daily album next year as well.

The second project I created is a 12x12 layout and I was excited to share a fun foiling technique with you.

I used the new Truly Grateful stamp + die set to create these gorgeous flowers. One of the things I love about this set is the fact that it's a layering set with an outline included. Outline stamps work perfectly for the foiling technique I want to share with you (full tutorial in the video below).

I stamped the outline images using StazOn ink on the Heat Transfer Gold Foil and then traced the outline using the WeRMemory Keepers Freestyle Foil Quill.

Guys. It's super cool.

I stamped the layers of the flowers and leaves after I did the foiling. The foil resists the ink, so it works perfectly!

Here is my process video where you can get a closer look at how I created this layout.

And here's another look at the final layout:

So, ready for the giveaway info? Yep. That's what I thought.

Altenew | October 2019 Stencil/Washi Tape/Die Cut Tape Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hey friends! Guess what? Altenew has a totally new and totally awesome release of stencils, washi tapes, and die cut tapes. And I'm in love.

I used the new Bouquet Die Cut Tape along with the Linear Stencil on a layout and I had so much fun creating it.

The tape has a slick, vinyl-like surface, so I thought it would be fun to try coloring it with alcohol inks. Altenew sells alcohol based Artist Markers, which I don't have, but I used the re-inkers to create some gorgeous colors on the die cut tape.

I used my inked tape as a border on my layout and embellished with bits and pieces from the Live Your Dream collection and stuff I had in my stash.

The clear floral stickers happened to match perfectly. I adhered them to some cardstock so they would pop.

I added some stenciling behind my photo and on two edges of the paper. My title was die cut from white cardstock using the Bold Alphabet Die Set. I also die cut the letters from fun foam in blue and layered it behind the cardstock. I love this look!

I recorded the process and you can check it out below!

Here's another look at the final layout:

Altenew August 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hey friends! I have a gorgeous new Altenew release to share with you today and I've created a layout and a card using some of the new stamps and dies!

I worked with the Dot Art Stamp Set and the Pleasant Pansy 3D Die and I absolutely LOVE them!

First, I created a layout of a recent little day trip my daughter and I took to Payson Lakes. The gorgeous floral dies and the fun dotted leaves from the Dot Art Stamp Set were perfect for these photos.

I started by creating some purple/pink pansies with some cardstock. I also cut some leaves from vellum. I wanted to keep them soft because I knew I was going to stamp the dot art leaves on the background of the layout.

I created a row of photos and added some florals to the top right and the bottom left of the row.

I used the Block Alpha Stamp Set for my title and added a few Butterfly Acetate Die Cuts for some whimsy.

I'm really happy with how this came together! I had a few pansies left over after I made the layout so I created a super quick card.

I added some Sea Breeze blue ink in the center of my card, popped up my flower, added some leaves and a sentiment and I was nearly done!

To finish it, I added some matching tangled thread, a few iridescent sequins and created a striped border using a stamp from the Dot Art Stamp Set. Easy, peasy!

I filmed a process video for both of these and accidentally deleted them (argh!!), but I did film a more detailed layout and card share video where I talk all about how I created these projects.

10 Easy Ways to Add Artful Touches to Your Craft Projects

Do you love all of those gorgeous artistic looks you see in home decor, fashion, and craft projects? Are you a little intimidated by it? I want to show you 10 easy ways to add that artful touch to your projects!

I go over them in detail in the video, or you can scroll through the list below for some inspiration!

1. Acrylic Paint Stripes - Use a large flat brush, your favorite colors of acrylic paint and just swipe them across a piece of paper for some easy home decor or the background of a scrapbook layout or card!

2. Paint Dragging - Use an old gift card, palette knife, or even a thick piece of cardstock to drag paint across a piece of paper. I love doing this with leftover acrylic paint from other projects. Waste not, want not, right? Here are a few examples...

I used several different coordinating colors to drag the paint vertically for the background of this layout.

On this layout, I created an L-shape with two shades of the same color and that created a home from my photo and embellishments.

3. Paint Splatters - This technique is super easy. Just use watered down paint or spray mist and flick on the color. So easy. So effective. I use this on at least half my layouts!

For this layout, I sprinkled paint in the colors of the embellishments and I love the extra pop it gives!

4. Punch or Die Cut Shapes from Painted Backgrounds - Sometimes a painted background just doesn't work out the way I planned. BUT, I always find that if I punch shapes out of it, I get little bits of goodness that are easy to add to my projects.

Circles are my favorite. You can see on this layout that I took a piece of paper where I dragged the paint across and die cut circles from it. You get all the punch without being overwhelmed!

Here's another example where I layered the paint on thick, let it dry overnight, and then punched it. Glorious!

5. Smooshing Paint/Ink with Packaging - This is absolutely one of my favorite ways to add that artsy look with almost no effort. Just take a piece of packaging, add watercolor, ink, or spray mist, turn it over, and smoosh it down on your paper. So easy! (Watch the video for a demo).

In this example, I used the same colors that I wanted to use for my layout and it gives a soft, ethereal look.

Here's another similar look. I find blue smooshing adds a watery look to my ocean photos!

6. Smooshing with a Stamping Block - If you want your smooshing to stay contained within a shape, this is a great way to go. My favorite is my circular stamping block, but you could use anything shaped and plastic-y to get a similar look.

The bright circles of color add so much to this layout (which is actually a little peek at a layout from my Ready, Sketch, Go! Volume 5 Class)!

7. Watercolor Swatches - Do you ever test new watercolors on a piece of paper, just to see what the colors look like? Save that! It makes an excellent card.

8. Squares of Color - Another wonderful and simple way to create a background for a card. Simply paint small squares of coordinating colors.

9. Watercolor Stripes - Similar to the first technique, take a paintbrush (round or flat) and load it up with watercolor. Paint stripes for a card background. I love doing the colors of the rainbow!

10. Pre-made Products - If after all of these examples, paint just isn't for you, you can absolutely use products that already have that awesome look to them! You can find anything from patterned papers, transparency, die cuts, washi tape, stickers, and stamps to give you that awesome painted look without the mess!

The most recent release from Altenew has a lot of papers and embellishments that will give you that artful look - so pretty!

The circles on this layout were actually made by applying some large washi tape with a floral pattern to white cardstock - such an easy way to add that gorgeous look.

This layout is a great showcase of pre-made artsy patterns. The background (a Crate Paper + Scrapbook.com exclusive) has the pink painted circlular strokes and the speech bubbles were a pre-made die cut from Pretty Little Studio. Gorgeous, right?

I hope that I've given you some ideas (and maybe some courage) to go out and try these techniques on your own! And if you want lots of inspiration, be sure to head over to my Facebook group where people are posting new projects all the time!
